Parent Council

Parent ForumParsons Green Primary School Edinburgh

The Parent Forum is made up of parents who have a child at Parsons Green Primary School. All such parents are automatically members of the Parent Forum for our school.

One of the ways parents in the Parent Forum can express their views is through the Parent Council. As a member of the Parent Forum you can expect to:

  • Receive information about the school and its activities
  • Be invited to all Parent Council meetings
  • Attend Parent Council meetings and/or participate as a member of the Parent Council
  • Participate in deciding how the parent representative body, the Parent Council, is organised and how it operates
  • Identify issues you want the Parent Council to work on within the school
  • Be asked your opinions by the Parent Council on issues relating to the school and the education it provides
  • Work in partnership with staff
  • Enjoy taking part in the life of the school in whatever way you can

Parent Council

The Parent Council is a group of volunteer parents who represent all the parents of children at our school

Objectives of the Parent Council:

  • Promote partnership between the school, the pupils and the parents
  • Develop and engage in activities which support and promote the education and welfare of the pupils
  • Identify and represent the views of parents on the education provided and other matters affecting the education and welfare of pupils

Join the Parsons Green Parent Council Whatsapp community for announcements, to learn about clubs and extracurriculars, and to join in community events. For security we don’t post access to this online, but please email the school, come to one of our events, or ask another parent to put you in touch.

Or get in touch with the school who can put you in touch with the Parent Council.

Structure

The Parent Council is made up of a ‘management group’ whose role is:

  • to develop the aims and strategy of the Parent Council;
  • to try to resolve parent issues;
  • to coordinate and support the sub-groups;
  • to fundraise and manage the Council’s finances;
  • to grow links between parents and the school; and
  • to form links with other Parent Councils and with the City of Edinburgh Council.

There may also be, from time to time, additional fixed term sub-groups set up to focus on a particular problem, issue or area of development that has arisen. Currently, there are sub-groups for Library, Climate, and Additional Support Needs & Neurodiversity. The Play & Move was a short-term group responsible for overseeing the installation of play equipment donated by the Modern Art Gallery for the infant playground.  The parent council also have representatives with responsibilities for After Schools Activities and Pre-Loved Uniform.

Office Bearers

For the 2025-26 school year the Parent Council office bearers are:

  • Chair: Hilary Roberts
  • Vice Chair: Katie Morris
  • Treasurer: Dan Darwin-Clements
  • Secretary: Katy Muir

Meetings

The Parent Council meets regularly to discuss various matters. All parents and carers are invited to these meetings, to bring topics, learn more about what’s going on at the school and to inform the discussions. There is an AGM and communication sessions with the Parent Forum. See the News page for further information.

In addition to the members of the Parent Council, the following people are co-opted to attend and contribute to the meetings:

  • Head Teacher
  • Depute Head Teacher
  • Class Teachers or members of the Pupil Council may attend if appropriate

Funding requests

The Parent Council fundraises throughout the year to support our mission to support Parsons Green pupils and their community. We spend the funds to put on community events, provide a welfare fund for the school, to add or improve extracurriculars at the school, and more. If you are a parent within the school and you have a proposal for how funds may be spent, for the benefit of the children, please come to a Parent Council meeting, speak to a member of the Parent Council or fill in one of these forms and return to either the Chair of the PC or the HT. Thank you.

Volunteer for the school – Get your PVG

Could you help as a reading helper, library volunteer, club helper, or support school trips? Parent volunteers make a huge difference to school life and help create enriching experiences for our pupils.

Under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in Scotland, anyone volunteering regularly in school is required to join the PVG scheme.

This applies even if you already have a PVG through another organisation.

The good news:

  • It’s quick and free to apply
  • Your PVG lasts for 5 years
  • It helps ensure a safe environment for all pupils

To start your application, contact the Parent Council: parsonsgreenpc@gmail.com

We will guide you through the process. You will need to:

  • Provide some proof of your ID
  • Complete a short online application form

School Uniform + pre-loved uniform rail

The Parent Council in partnership with the school fully endorse the school uniform policy.

To make sure all school uniform is used to its fullest we also operate a pre-loved school uniform rail just inside the main entrance of the school. Feel free to take home any items from the rail at any time! If you need help finding something, just head to the Pre-loved uniform group in our community.
