First Steps Booklet

This booklet is given to all new P1 parents starting at Parsons Green Primary School. It has specific information relevant to P1 but is also useful for new starts at other stages.

For new P1 families, you may find it helpful to look at the Play section of the website to understand the approach that we are taking at Parsons Green: This can also be found under the ‘Curriculum’ Tab Heading:

Time For Reflection: Information

The Education (Scotland) Act 1980 imposes a statutory duty on local authorities to provide religious observance in Scottish schools. As Scotland is a country which welcomes people from other communities, the range of faiths and traditions through Religious Observance should reflect this diversity from a faith or non-faith perspective.

Schools are asked to arrange six assemblies that are specifically for a Time for Reflection which reflect a sense of community and understanding, spiritual development and celebrating shared values. These assemblies are times for reflection, not religious worship.

These assemblies are as follows, specific dates are added to the assembly plan for the year ahead and communicated in the weekly newsletter, this year they take place on alternate Tuesdays/Wednesdays, parents and carers are welcome to attend:

Sept 21st- World Peace Day

October  – Harvest – Foodbank donations
December – Christmas
March  – Easter
May  – Diversity
June  – Leaver’s/ Moving On
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from these assemblies, however all assemblies adopt an open and respectful approach, and do not seek to compromise the beliefs of any pupil or their families.
