Fundraising target = £2,000 to £3,000
About P7 fundraising
Primary 7 is an exciting year at Parsons Green. Pupils take part in a range of activities that help them celebrate their time at primary school, strengthen friendships and prepare for the transition to secondary school.
Many of these activities are supported by fundraising organised by P7 parents and carers. To spread the workload, this fundraising can begin in P6.
Important to know
The activities described here reflect what has been provided in previous years. They are intended as a guide only and are not a guarantee of what will take place in any particular year.
What can be offered will depend on:
- the amount raised through fundraising
- support from P7 parents and carers
- volunteer availability
- the interests and priorities of the P7 cohort
Our aim is to create meaningful and memorable experiences for pupils. Celebrations should remain inclusive, age-appropriate and focused on P7 achievement, friendship and community spirit.
How much do we need to raise?
As a guide, P7 fundraising typically aims to raise between £2,000 and £3,000.
This helps fund items such as:
- the P7 yearbook (approx. £700)
- an end-of-year activity or trip (approx. £900–£1,200)
- production costs for the P7 show (approx. £200)
- decorations for the Qually (approx. £150)
- financial support to help pupils participate in activities
The amount required can vary from year to year depending on pupil numbers, event costs and the activities chosen by the P7 cohort.
Partnership with the Parent Council
P6 and P7 cohorts may be invited to work in partnership with the Parent Council on two of the school’s major fundraising events.
- P6 Summer Fair: In P6, families may help organise the Summer Fair.
- P7 Winter Fair: In P7, families may help organise the Winter Fair.
The Parent Council typically undertakes much of the administration and volunteer coordination for these events, while P6 and P7 pupils and families help shape the theme, activities and overall character of the event.
A significant donation from the proceeds of each event is made towards the cohort’s fundraising. In previous years, the contribution has been around £1,000, although this varies depending on the success of the event.
Across the Summer Fair and Winter Fair, a substantial proportion of the overall P7 fundraising target can often be achieved, meaning many cohorts begin P7 with much of their fundraising already completed.
How are P7 funds managed?
All P7 fundraising money is managed by the Parent Council.
P7 funds are:
- held separately from the Parent Council’s general funds
- ringfenced for the benefit of the current P7 year group
- monitored and accounted for by the Parent Council Treasurer
- used only for agreed P7 activities and expenses
What fundraising helps pay for
Qually
The Parsons Green “Qually” is a long-standing school tradition.
It is best thought of as a P7 social dance and celebration rather than a formal prom. The event gives pupils the opportunity to spend time together enjoying music, dancing and friendship as a year group.
The event is organised by school staff, with support from parents and carers helping to decorate the hall and prepare refreshments.
A charge of £5 (not covered by fundraising) will apply to cover some event costs, such as food/the band.
P7 show
The P7 show is one of the highlights of the summer term.
Pupils can contribute in different ways, including:
- performing
- stage management
- scenery and props
- costumes
- sound and technical support
Fundraising may help cover production costs, including licences and music.
End-of-year activity
Many P7 groups choose to organise a special end-of-year activity or trip.
The destination and cost vary from year to year and will depend on pupil preferences, available funding and practical arrangements.
Fundraising often contributes towards the cost of this activity.
Yearbook
Every P7 pupil usually receives a yearbook featuring photographs, memories and reflections from their time at Parsons Green.
Parents and carers play a significant role in collecting photographs, preparing content and organising production.
Fundraising helps cover printing and production costs.
Benmore residential
The Benmore residential experience is organised by the school and paid for by parents and carers. Details of costs, payment schedules and support arrangements are communicated directly by the school.
Fundraising may be used to help ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent any pupils from taking part.
Typical fundraising activities
Fundraising activities vary from year to year, but may include:
- collaboration with the Parent Council on the school’s Summer Fair (in P6) and Winter Fair (in P7)
- bake sales at parent consultations
- sponsored activities such as a water run
- other events organised by P7 families
Specific fundraising plans and dates will be shared with families during the school year.
The success of P7 activities relies on support from P7 parents and carers, together with the wider Parent Council and school community.
