What is the ‘Protect Our Future’ project?
Protect Our Future is an art project amplifying children and young people’s voices to call politicians to action on the climate emergency, asking them to shift Scotland to renewable energy within (12 years, one Child’s school career). Protect Our Future was devised by a grassroots community group, Mothers Climate Action Network Edinburgh and children and teachers of Parsons Green Primary school and aims to bring together the contributions from 10,000 children across Scotland, linking them together to create a paper chain that will be taken to and presented at the Holyrood parliament building in Spring 2025.
10,000 is the number of signatures needed for a petition to be debated in parliament, this artwork mirrors that of political petitions, a citizens opportunity to call for action of a particular issue, with each Child’s art, representing their ‘signature’. ‘Protect Our Future’ is the demand from children in P5/6 at Parsons Green Primary School.
