To celebrate Carers Week 2021, we have invited Edinburgh Young Carers to give a virtual Teams assembly today for P4-7. A young carer is somebody who cares for or is affected by someone else at home – usually a parent or sibling – who suffers from physical or mental ill-health or has substance misuse issues.
Edinburgh Young Carers works with young people aged 5 to 25 years old. The charity provides a respite service to ensure that young carers have the opportunity to play, make new friends, and try different activities. The charity will speak to the children about what it means to be a young carer, the skills children gain from caring, how to be a good friend to a young carer, and support available for children who have caring responsibilities. If you feel that your child could be a young carer, please contact Susan Cochrane or Nicola Ross, the Young Carer Coordinators within the school. Our role is to identify young carers, provide support to the children and their families, and liaise with other agencies, such as Edinburgh Young Carers. You can follow the charity on Facebook/Instagram or go to https://www.youngcarers.org.uk/ for more information.
